We are pleased to announce Doug Amato has joined Tidal Basin as the Director of Debris Management. With over 12 years of experience in disaster recovery and FEMA Public Assistance (PA) Category A – Debris Removal, Doug brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to our team. His knowledge and experience strengthen Tidal Basin’s services as we continue to support communities in disaster management and recovery.
Throughout his career, Doug has managed the removal of over 10 million cubic yards of debris and overseen recovery contracts exceeding $500 million. He has advised federal, state, and local governments on debris eligibility, documentation, and cost justification across more than 20 federally declared major disaster events. His ability to collaborate effectively with federal, state, and local emergency management partners has improved post-disaster recovery efforts while ensuring compliance with FEMA policies and regulations.
Prior to joining Tidal Basin, Doug held senior leadership roles at a nationally recognized debris management firm, where he supported recovery efforts for major storm events including Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Ian, and the 2020 California wildfires. More recently, he led complex wildfire recovery operations for the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire in New Mexico and the Mountain Fire in Ventura County, California. This work demonstrates his ability to lead diverse, large-scale recovery operations, manage teams, and ensure policy compliance in high-pressure environments.
Doug has received the Project of the Year award from the APWA Texas Chapter for his work on the 2016 Texas tornado recovery. He also holds certifications from FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute (EMI), covering debris operations, Incident Command Systems (ICS), and public assistance programs.
