We are thrilled to welcome Adrienne Sheldon, PE, CFM, as Senior Director and Tidal Basin’s Mitigation Practice Lead!
With over 25 years of experience in floodplain management, hazard mitigation, and disaster resilience, Adrienne is a proven leader in advancing community safety and flood resilience across federal, private, and consulting sectors.
Adrienne’s impressive career includes leading branches within FEMA’s Floodplain Management Division, where she helped guide strategic operations, program direction, and budget planning for national floodplain initiatives impacting nearly 23,000 communities. She was instrumental in modernizing FEMA’s federal systems, shaping national floodplain programs, and guiding major initiatives such as the Community Rating System (CRS) and efforts to update to National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) standards.
Her extensive background also includes leadership roles at AECOM, URS Corporation, and Greenhorne and O’Mara (now Stantec), where she managed teams focused on resilient design, hazard mitigation planning, and disaster recovery.
Adrienne is recognized as an industry expert, having contributed to national workshops, several post-disaster studies on building performance, and co-authored several of FEMA’s Building Science publications focused on resilient design, including Floodproofing Non-Residential Buildings and Engineering Principals and Practices for Retrofitting Flood-Prone Residential Structures.
Adrienne holds a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Maryland and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM). She is active in industry organizations such as ASCE and ASFPM, and her commitment to mentoring and fostering collaboration has made her a trusted leader in the field.
