About the National Homeland Security Conference (NHSC)

A Brief History of the National Homeland Security Conference (NHSC)
The NHSC began in 2005 in Dallas, Texas. The conference was started from a need to strengthen cross-discipline collaboration among Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) programs and first responders. What started as a regional fire-chief–led workshop quickly grew into a national platform for sharing lessons learned, technology demos, and best practices.
- The 2010 conference in New Orleans added federal-public health and transportation security programs.
- By 2013, in Los Angeles, NHSC merged with counterterrorism forums like LinCT and Major Cities Chiefs.
- Attendance has steadily risen since then, surpassing 1,800 professionals by 2025.
