As the New York and New Jersey region prepares to welcome one of the world’s largest sporting events, public safety agencies and regional partners are taking proactive steps to strengthen coordination, information sharing, and preparedness efforts.

Last month, Tidal Basin coordinated an Intelligence & Information Sharing Tabletop Exercise (TTX) at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, bringing together representatives from public safety agencies and partner organizations across the region. The exercise focused on enhancing collaboration and preparedness ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which will bring significant international attention and increased visitor activity to the area.

Designed to foster discussion and strengthen interagency coordination, the tabletop exercise provided participants with an opportunity to examine information sharing processes, discuss operational considerations, and identify opportunities to enhance regional readiness. Through facilitated scenario-based discussions, attendees explored how organizations can work together effectively before, during, and after a major international event.

The session generated valuable dialogue among participants, highlighting both the complexities and opportunities associated with supporting an event of this scale. The exercise also reinforced the importance of strong relationships and established communication channels among agencies and organizations responsible for public safety, emergency management, and intelligence operations.

“Tidal Basin is proud to support efforts that bring partners together to strengthen preparedness and resilience,” said Adrienne Sheldon, Department Head, Planning and Resilience. “Exercises like these help build the relationships, coordination mechanisms, and shared understanding necessary to support safe and successful large-scale events.”

Tidal Basin extends its appreciation to High Street Consulting for facilitating the exercise and to the Northern New Jersey – Newark/Jersey City Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) and the New Jersey Regional Operations and Intelligence Center (NJ ROIC) for hosting the event and bringing together stakeholders from across the region.

As planning efforts continue, exercises such as this play a critical role in strengthening regional coordination, enhancing information sharing capabilities, and ensuring partners are prepared to support residents and visitors throughout the FIFA World Cup and beyond.
