Tidal Basin, a Michael Baker International Company, was recently featured on Boston 25 News for its work supporting a City of Boston pilot program offering free home flood risk assessments.

Through the Home Flood Assessment Pilot Program, Tidal Basin is working alongside colleagues from Michael Baker International’s Boston Infrastructure team to help participating residents in Port Norfolk understand where their homes may be vulnerable to flooding.

Led by the City’s Planning Department and Office of Climate Resilience, the program gives each participating household a report identifying flood risks and potential improvements specific to its property.

In the news segment, Scott Tezak, Tidal Basin’s Chief Operating Officer, explains what the assessments look for, including places where water could enter a home and equipment that could be damaged. Depending on the property, potential improvements may include sealing foundation cracks, installing sewer backflow preventers or elevating utilities.

The assessments give residents a clearer picture of their options so they can make informed decisions about protecting their homes and preparing for future flooding.
