Director of Debris Management
Doug Amato serves as the Director of Debris Management at Tidal Basin Group. With over 12 years of expertise in disaster recovery and FEMA Public Assistance (PA) Category A – Debris Removal, a track record of managing over 10 million cubic yards of debris, and overseeing recovery contracts totaling more than $500 million, has established Doug as a trusted leader in the industry.
Throughout his career, Doug has provided strategic guidance on debris management, eligibility, documentation, and cost justification for over 20 federally declared major disaster events. His collaborative approach has seen him work closely with federal, state, and local emergency management partners to optimize post-disaster recovery efforts, ensuring compliance with FEMA’s policies and regulations.
Doug’s leadership goes beyond operations. He has successfully supervised teams of more than 100 employees and held key leadership roles in industry-leading debris management organizations such as True North Emergency Management, where he served as Vice President and Senior Project Manager. In this role, he provided tailored solutions for disaster recovery projects and coordinated with high-level stakeholders, including Incident Management Teams and state and federal leaders. His work on major recovery efforts, such as Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Ian, Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire, and most recently the Mountain Fire in Ventura County, California, demonstrates his ability to deliver results in high-stakes environments.
Doug’s dedication to excellence has earned him industry recognition, including a Project of the Year award by the APWA Texas Chapter for his contributions to the 2016 Texas tornado recovery. He also maintains certifications from FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute (EMI), covering critical areas such as debris operations, Incident Command Systems (ICS), and public assistance programs.
