Chris Mewes

Senior Director, Grants and Program Management


Chris Mewes is an emergency management leader with almost 20 years of experience, including HUD CDBG-DR, FEMA Individual Assistance, and FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance. He currently serves as a Senior Director at Tidal Basin, where he helps lead the Florida Non-Congregate Sheltering program. Previously, he supported Tidal Basin’s work on the Maui Wildfire recovery and led Florida’s Sheltering Home for Recovery Continuation (SHRC) program, overseeing over 1,000 home repair projects following Hurricane Ian.  

Chris’s career has been marked by a commitment to rebuilding and creating safer environments for communities. Recognized as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) by the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), Chris combines a strategic vision with technical expertise to deliver impactful results on multi-billion-dollar grants and recovery programs. Chris excels in community and disaster recovery, grant and program management, construction oversight, and benefit-cost analysis. 

Prior to joining Tidal Basin, Chris served in various roles with industry-leading consulting firms and led his own business. Chris started his career with voluntary organizations, including the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. That same service mindset still drives his work. 

Chris has a B.A. in Political Science from Hunter College and is a Certified First Responder.
